The Jefferson Islands Club

About the Jefferson Islands Club

The Jefferson Islands Club is a fabulous, rustic retreat on St. Catherine's Island in the lower Potomac River, about a one and half hour drive from Washington, DC (though you do have to get there by boat).  Founded by Members of Congress in 1931, the Club keeps alive its political traditions in conjunction with a long dedication to preserve and protect the Island the surrounding areas.

The Club is actively looking for new members to enjoy this unique Island Club.  Information on membership, some pictures of the Island, and our history are on the website.

The Jefferson Islands Club is also proud of its special emphasis over the last three decades to promote bipartisanship and civility, which it does through special events on Capitol Hill four times per year, highlighted by the annual Citizen of the Year event, this year to be held September 14, 2011.  The Club expects to announce soon it 2011 awardees.

In May 2011, the purposes in the Club's Bylaws reflect these lofty objectives:

To support, defend, and advance the fundamental principles of government enunciated by Thomas Jefferson.

To provide a Club House with suitable surroundings and comforts where members may assemble, discuss and promote Jeffersonian philosophies, to the end they may become controlling in Federal and State Governments.

To encourage civil discourse for a better America, to foster national unity by supporting bipartisan principles of democracy espoused by our founding fathers, and to provide a congenial setting conducive to philosophical discussions while also protecting and resorting natural resources in the lower Potomac watershed.
